Today, with less than 24 hours left until Apple’s beyond exciting September 9th media event, new rumors and reports have surfaced pertaining to both the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model (which has long since been thought to be released ahead of it’s larger counterpart) as well as the aforementioned 5.5-inch iPhone 6 variant. Based on Apple’s Tuesday unveiling, and patterns from years past, we expect that the iPhone 6 will be available for pre-order this Friday, with a subsequent release the following Friday, September 19th. While that conclusion has been drawn by a countless number of individuals familiar with Apple’s iPhone release cycle, a new report seemingly confirms the release of a 5.5-inch iPhone alongside its expected 4.7-inch counterpart!
Although it was previously thought that a larger iPhone 6 model would released at a later date, due to a lack of sufficient leaks pertaining to the device (BestTechInfo and Evasi0n Jailbreak were the first to publicize images of the larger device’s back housing), a French site by the name of iGen.fr suggests that both models will be available simultaneously.
Furthermore, it’s possible that previous claims of a staggered iPhone 6 launch between size variations may have been fueled due to the suggested lack of leaks, which can likely be attributed to Apple’s alleged plans of larger quantities of the 4.7-inch model than the bigger alternative.
Also, in a follow-up report from Mac Otakara, while the 4.7-inch iPhone will be referred to as simply the “iPhone 6,” the larger 5.5-inch version may be dubbed the “iPhone 6 Plus” – although it would seemingly be more logical to have the written form of the device read as follows: “iPhone 6+”.
Regardless, we’ll know definitely tomorrow when Apple’s unveiling event commences at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (1PM Eastern).
