Jailbreak Apple TV 2 on 6.2.1 (iOS 7.1.2) Seas0nPass, No Apple TV 4 or 3 Support

Today Apple allowed customers to order the New Apple TV 4 (unboxing here) and, in light of that fact I opted to create this new Apple TV 2 Jailbreak 6.2.1 tutorial out of nostalgia. Mere days ago, FireCore, reportedly with the assistance of iH8sn0w, pod2g of the evad3rs and p0sixninja from the quondam Chronic Dev Team, updated their Seas0nPass Apple TV Jailbreak utility to function on the latest firmware for the 2nd generation device, being 6.2.1 (the equivalent to iOS 7.1.2)!

With that many renowned names involved in updating a new Jailbreak let’s hope they return to development – albeit unlikely, we can dream! Now without getting sidetracked, let’s return to the Apple TV Jailbreak tutorial, which unfortunately is exclusive to the Apple TV 2.

Due to the A4 CPU powering the older ATV2, we’re able to Jailbreak it because the tool makes use of an older adapted hardware vulnerability. Furthermore, beyond the ATV2 exclusivity there are three major limitations to the latest version of FireCore for 6.2.1, which are as follows:

Apple TV Jailbreak Restrictions

1. You must have a Mac – thankfully though OS X El Capitan is supported.

2. Because FireCore uses a Custom IPSW to Jailbreak the Apple TV, it needs to be restored.

3. Due to the use of the old hardware exploit, FireCore is a Tethered Jailbreak.

Seas0nPass Jailbreak

Step 1. Download all required components for this Apple TV Jailbreak tutorial from the download section featured below and launch Seas0nPass.

Urgent Note: Depending on your security settings, you may have to “Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere” inside the ‘Security & Privacy’ portion of System Preferences. Furthermore, the first time you run Seas0nPass, it will ask for your administrative password to receive download privileges to obtain, patch and restore to 6.2.1.

Step 2. Plug your Apple TV 2 into your Mac via a standard Micro USB cable, left click the option to ‘Create IPSW’ inside Seas0nPass and choose 6.1.2.

Step 3. Wait for Seas0nPass to build the custom IPSW and when prompted to enter DFU mode, plug the AC power cable into the back of it to initiate the boot process. At this stage, you’ll need to enter DFU mode prior to the successful boot cycle of the ATV.

Enter DFU: To successfully enter DFU mode, simply point the remote at the Apple TV and hold both the Menu and Pause/Play buttons for 7 seconds until the LED on the front of the device begins rapidly flashing and release.

Step 4. Allow Seas0nPass to run through the automated restore process and refrain from interacting with either the tool or iTunes until the restore is complete.

Step 5. After the Apple TV 2 iOS 6.2.1 Jailbreak has succeeded, position it within range of your TV, plug your ATV2 in via Micro USB, re-open Seas0nPass and click the option on the right to boot tethered. When prompted to enter DFU mode, follow the above steps labeled ‘Enter DFU’. After the Tethered boot finishes, disconnect the USB cable and connect to your TV through HDMI without unplugging the power cable.

Urgent Note 2: Due to the Tethered nature of the Apple TV 2 Jailbreak on 6.2.1, you’ll be required to follow the fifth and final step of this tutorial every time your device reboots.

Congratulations, after having followed five steps, you’ve successfully Jailbroken your Apple TV 2 running 6.2.1 (AKA iOS 7.1.2), the latest firmware for the device!
